About Us

Ray McLaren Charter Fishing has been operating for over 25 years, run by Skipper Ray McLaren and his crew “Rich the Fish”. We pride ourselves on providing memorable trips for all of the anglers, pulling out all the stops to make sure everybody on board catches lots of fish.
Operating from Gosport Ferry Terminal, most of customers come from Portsmouth and Gosport and other areas in Hampshire. However, our services are so highly rated, we have people from all over the country travelling down to the south coast to spend the day with us.
We welcome all types of people, of all ages on board. Ladies and kids are more than welcome on our charter, we makes sure that everyone has a fantastic time.
We can cater for any type of fishing on Indie, but wreck and reef is Ray’s specialty. Consistent catches of Cod, Bass and Pollock are the norm, but if you prefer tope and hounds it is not a problem.

Skipper - Ray McLaren

Ray has been passionate about sea fishing for over 35 years! There is very little he cannot do, or teach you while aboard his boat. The only thing he enjoys more than catching fish himself, is spreading the joy and the thrill of the catch to his satisfied customers.
As a skipper, nobody loves their job more than Ray does. Being out at sea finding the best wrecks for the anglers is his love and his specialty. His passion and experience really make a day out with Ray McLaren Fishing Charters special. There is only so much a boat can do, the true heart of the experience comes from the crew.
From a young age becoming the skipper of his own fishing charter was all he had ever dreamed of. One day back in the eighties, Ray finally achieved that dream, when he purchased a Mitchell 31. The rest is history…

Our History

Ray McLaren Fishing Charters first boat was a Mitchell 31, a large beautiful vessel, but unfortunately it proved to be far too slow. So we invested in several smaller and faster boats to try and achieve the higher and more practical speeds.
Back in 2009 Ray was running a Rel Craft 23, but she broke her moorings during a storm. Shortly after, a Hardy 24 was found. Although she was quick, it just wasn’t quite up to our highest standards. So our search for the dream fishing charter began.
The next boat was the first one Ray completely fell in love with. She was big, fast and kitted out with the finest electronics. The first Indie was almost everything Ray was looking for in a boat, however, she was just not meant for the intense fishing action that Ray McLaren Fishing Charters provide. So unfortunately, he had to let her go.
In 2013 ray bought Oberon, a 38ft Evolution Charter Boat. She was huge and did a good job, however she was just not fast enough. Only the best standards are good enough for our Charters.
Now, in 2016, our search for the south coast’s dream charter had finally come to an end.
The new Indie, named after Ray McLaren’s daughter, is a 10m Cougar Catamaran built bespoke to our highest standards. You can view all of Indie's spec
